I've been keeping tabs on Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn for quite some time, and I feel like I have witnessed a very impressive progression of their sound and somehow watched them grow up? The duo has always been very soulful and lyrical, and tried to immerse the listeners in their lives, so it was not just a sound evolution, but also evolution of them as adults.
Their 7th studio album Nothing New Under The Sun (yes, 7th album, hence my comment about very visible progression) is their most mature work to date. And again, it is mature both in sound and collaborations they brought in, but also mature in their lyrics, we are hearing a very different Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn.
I picked "The Middle" to showcase the album as it features one of my favorite UK MCs Lex Amor. Both rapping styles compliment each other so well, all while being so perfectly British. As a big fan of piano, the subtle chords with the beat is also something that made the track really stand out for me.
