So being mildly obsessed with all things Foy Vance, this weekend has kind of been like Easter for a chocoholic.
Firstly we finally learnt that Foy's 3rd album (4th if you count his "Live at Bangor Abbey album) will be entitled The Wild Swan and released on the 13th May. It's also worth mentioning this will be the debut Vance release on Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records, which was recorded in Nashville with Grammy award winning producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Editors & James Bay etc).
So album - a big fat, golden tick in the box
Next, to accompany the album announcement, we got to experience the first soundbite from the Vance/Gingerbread machine in the form of The Wild Swan's first single "She Burns". Thankfully the track is A-typical Vance at it's core, with its roots firmly planted in the acoustic-folk arena. You can however notice a slight shift in sound with the supporting track - with an edgier electric loop that's not your stereotypical Vance atmosphere. Personally I love it but whether it's evident throughout the album and if so proves to be progression rather than transgression? - well I guess that's one for the purists.
So single - check!!
And if all that wasn't enough, we also found out that Vance will be doing a lastminute.com whirlwind series of intimate shows next week. What makes this even better news for me, not many artists of Vance's ilk would choose to do this in pubs, and especially not pubs in South Yorkshire (oh yeah I should add that I live in South Yorkshire)!
Oh yeah and don't forget you can also find Vance supporting Elton John throughout the UK this summer.
So Live dates - BOOM! (See you Saturday you genius of a man)
