Last year I kept an eye on EXES and was truly blown away by their music, but somehow amidst all the good stuff out there I stopped paying attention. Too bad, really!
I have now rediscovered their fifth track "Sherman Oaks" and it must be the highlight of my week and definitely a highlight of EXES' music to me. I haven't stopped playing this track ever since I heard it. It has all the elements that I loved about the band sometime ago: intimacy of the track paired with very bassy production and a general bittersweet feeling. The track is captivating and gives you literally all the feels.
Check out what Allie McDonald had to say about the track. Maybe that's why it's so touching and relatable?
"I wrote Sherman Oaks out of desperation and heartache, months ago, in the middle of the night. It was a song I needed to write in order to heal. I fell hard and fast for someone new – and when I tried to let go, I couldn’t. As artists, we aren’t afraid to put our lives – our hearts on display. Sherman Oaks is very real to us."
