Premiere Friday! Stoked to share with you Equal Echo - the new project of producer / DJ Hector Plimmer and singer Alexa Harley.
Equal Echo seems like quite the stellar duo - Hector has taken his beats on various tours supporting acts like Yussef Dayes, Amp Fiddler and Nightmares on Wax and you may know Alex's silky vocals from her collaborations with om Misch, Hybrid Minds & Mt Wolf. Yep. Everything sounds absolutely impressive, but the true discovery here is "Pandora". If there's one word to describe the track, that would be flawless. Every little detail in that song exhales perfection. Everything from the acoustic intro to slow-groove beats all the way to the vocals is a reason to fall in love.
"Pandora" is the first step towards duo's upcoming EP with the arrival of Dynamite this summer. The release hints at the past work of both artists whilst retaining an altogether fresh and unique outlook. Taking Hector's flair with synthesizers and rich instrumentation, Alexa's soulful and composed vocal delivery and a shared love of jazz, soul, house and pop soundscapes, the band impress with an expansive, emotive sound.
Speaking of the track, Alexa shares...
I’d originally written the intro to "Pandora" over piano chords but could never figure out how to progress the song until I brought it to the Equal Echo studio. We were experimenting with ideas when I played a chord as an arpeggio (which became the bass hook) - we immediately knew it was an ear worm. Hector put the hook through his his bass-station, added some drums and a few production bits and together we created this song.
"Pandora" is essentially about the aftermath of curiosity. It’s describes two people exploring new feelings outside the paradigm of their friendship. Once you cross a line, is it ever possible to go back to the way things were and forget all the what ifs? It made me think of the Greek myth Pandora’s Box, which is where the song title comes from.
