Emma-Jean Thackray first caught our ears back in 2020 with the release of her genre-bending Rain Dance EP, but even then the Leeds-born multi-instrumentalist and producer had already built an impressive catalog of music that can easily be considered national treasure.
Since then Emma-Jean released her highly acclaimed LP Yellow (2021) and collaborated with artists like Reggie Watts and Jitwam. Today we celebrate her brand new single "It's Okay" featuring Grammy-nominated singer, emcee, and drummer Kassa Overall, which will be part of her forthcoming record WEIRDO scheduled for release on April 25th.
The track is built on jazz foundations including tight drumming, soulful brass, and of course both Kassa and Emma-Jean's staggering vocal abilities.
A few weeks ago, she shared with us the first single off WEIRDO called "Wanna Die", which should also be on your radar.

WEIRDO marks another high point in Emma-Jean Thackray’s ever-expanding Galaxian trajectory - a project that sees her not only writing, singing, and arranging every detail but also recording and playing every single instrument herself. Crafted entirely from her South London flat, the track is both a bold statement of artistic independence and a testament to her evolution as a composer, lyricist, and human being. It’s a star-studded showcase of her boundless creativity, pushing the limits of jazz, electronic, and experimental sounds with effortless brilliance.
