With one of my fav tracks ever, "Some Say", Dragonfruit won my heart a while back.
Blending different styles and providing surprises with each release, they dropped "Lonely" today. With a production inspired by the L.A. beatscene, the track draws its nostalgic and comforting sound from old-school soulful samples. Paired with a hard-hitting, detailed drum track and flowing, heavy bassline this track provides a bouncing groove, while giving you a feeling of reflection and melancholy. Oh, and my jaw dropped when hearing Danique rapping. Amazing!
The band shares:
"Lonely" is about isolating yourself when you’re feeling down. Sometimes it seems easier to avoid the out-
side world when it’s looking extra grey. Less social interactions seem better when lying about the answer to “How have you been?” doesn’t feel good but you’re also not in the mood to tell everybody the answer “Not too well”. So you tell yourself you don’t mind being alone a lot. Danique: Lonely is a light and breezy self-pity party. It’s being okay with not being okay for now and being able to distance yourself from your
own melancholy and laugh about it.
The track is part of their debut album, due 8 October via Super-Sonic Records.
