DOPE LEMON, the award-winning project of Australian musician Angus Stone (from Angus and Julia Stone), has dazzled us with a new brand of sound and launched us into their upcoming album's ethereal and irresistible new intergalactic landscape.
The new track, “Electric Green Lambo”, is a continued testament to their range as a band; not only do they have the ability to conquer the banjo-riddled world of folk sound, indie pop, and neo-psychedelica, but they also seem to be harnessing a new sound that incorporates a more futuristic, intergalactic, and planetary vibe.
Still true to their 70s sound, the track is somehow both futuristic and retro. Stone carries us above and away from a previously curated world and opens the doors to a new era, as we glide high in the clutch of catchy guitar riffs and jingling bells.
Referencing old hits, Stone croons "drip honey on the whole scene"; a testament to the past, something ending, and also something beginning. He hints at the anticipation of new things, "hooked on the city brights, I'm a moth to the neon lights." True to their witty lyricism and imagery in this song, I anticipate what is in store with their next release.
I very much look forward to the release of their next album, Golden Wolf, this coming May.
