This next feature is today's reason to absolutely love music. Dejector's "Someone Like Me" (released via Another Rhythm) gave me goosebumps the first time I listened and it hasn't stopped ever since.
This gorgeous emotive electronica crafted by the Newcastle-born producer dwells in the space of downtempo ambient and garage music, perfectly wrapped around with captivating vocal chops.
The project was started in the midst of the Pandemic and is a reflection of Scott's year of isolation and the work he was able to channel during that time. I think this is why one can pick tons of emotions engraved in his tracks, including "Someone Like Me". There's hope, sadness, melancholia, and a lot of love for dance music. He also often uses field recordings and voice notes in his work, something which adds a lot of soul into the music. This is an absolutely heartfelt piece of art.
The track has gained considerable support from some of my favourite BBC Radio 1 DJs - Sian Eleri, Jaguar, and Jess Iszatt, and was also included in KISS FM's Fresh Five For 2023 by Ben Malone. Dejector has shared stages with artists we love like Barry Can't Swim, Junior Simba, and Laurence Guy, and is scheduled to perform soon in London (Peckham Audio) for his next show. That alone feels like a reason I should buy a plane ticket to London.
Honestly, it has been a while since I've been excited about someone's future, but I definitely thing we're about to see a great year for Dejector.
