Just when we get caught up in what was, we can always rely on a little re-funk to bring it back to right now. Recess brings it back to some vice city heat with deep vintage synths and luscious guitar in their remix of "Fill Your Soul" by Def3 and Late Night Radio. The 2017 EP Small World gets a funk facelift in the 2020 remix EP, which re-works all the powerful messaging of the original.
Small World Remixes has been out via Def3's own label Ship Records boasting a stacked line-up. Electro-funk heavyweights from across the world play their cards in this remix ritual, from Bristol's party priest Father Funk to the sax thunder from down under Cheshire, and now the soul sound of the midwest: Recess. You'll also find Woofax (former members of Terravita) jumping on for some Latin drum n' bass vibes and newer artist Vibe Selektaz kicking some late-night dub tactics.
We love remix releases because we get a creative spin from the perspective of various artistic styles. Along with Def3's truth bombs, we get a new medium through which to interpret the messages. Check it out below:
