With a computer, some synthesizers, and a field recorder at his disposal, UK-based designer and artist Jon Newton imbues electronica with his unique touch.
Inspired by artists like Jon Hopkins, David Holmes, and Ólafur Arnalds, Deadly Custard returns with a haunting, but upbeat ambient electronica paired with CAITLIN's emotive vocals. What truly stands out "Without You" is the wonderful way the cello fits in the composition.
Fun fact, if you wonder how Jon came up with his moniker, the idea was inspired by an article about the surprisingly explosive properties of custard powder. The name is fittingly odd and a perfect reflection of his eclectic style. I had the pleasure of exploring his other works including the outstanding Gold Rush EP (2021) for which he garnered support from Jaguar on BBC Radio One's Introducing Dance show.
"Without You" is out on UK mau5trap artist, music producer, and sound engineer Dom Kane's imprint 5302. Certainly label to keep an eye on.
