Nothing better than a calm Friday morning, paired with psychedelic jazz instrumentals and smooth bars.
Producer dane.zone joins forces with Lindsay Lucas and one of my favourite rappers at the moment Nappy Nina for a trippy, yet classical new joint called "Mercy". With visuals that reminded me of some Nordic black metal music, the track is a multi-layered complexity cocktail of great music, with the right amount of jazz ingredients. My first encounter with dane.zone, and I hope it won't be the last one.
While Lindsay Lucas is technically a new name in my sonic book, she's actually behind some iconic samples used by legends like French Montana, Russ, and JAY ELECTRONICA, so it might sound very familiar. The talented singer, producer, rapper, and songwriter effortlessly stirs old and new into the perfect mix of timeless sounds. I appreciate the silky, yet smoky scent in her vocals that add a unique element to the essence of "Mercy". She's also been Stereofox before thanks to Lu's coverage of "Your Side of the Bed" back in 2022.
Nappy Nina, who was featured on Butcher Brown's "Half Of It" (Solar Music, 2023), is currently gearing up for her upcoming LP NOTHING IS MY FAVORITE THING on September 13th, so stay tuned for more. The superlatives I've got when it comes to creativity and flow are endless. One of the few people that really makes me stop everything and pay attention these days.
Today's reason to love music.
