I've always liked poetry but spoken-word hip hop came into my life only a few years back.
Loyle Carner & Arlo Parks are definitely to blame but my newest fav find is actually a young and very promising lad called Dan Whitlam - if you're following us closely, I'm sure "Young Minds" has definitely made an impression on you already. I've completely fell in love with it since the 1st time I heard it.
His next single is called "Lights Down" and features East London singer KOATES. As you've probably guessed, Dan doesn't shy away from his signature poetry-driven rapping & storytelling, emotive and introspective, over a dreamy chill hip hop beat.
"Lights Down" is about wanting to provide for the ones you love but worrying it might still not be enough. The warm & intimate nature of the track is elevated even more with the official music video, taking you on a ride around London. Tune in below:
