Excited to debut Cousin Kula for the very first time on Stereofox, just a few hours after they dropped their latest single “Staying With You”. Existing in the space between complete awesomeness and timeless soulful psychedelia, the Bristol-based 5-piece has the unique ability to make you forget anything else exists outside the realm of their music.
Rooted in the class jazz, funk, and soul sound, Cousin Kula started creating music around 2017 when their debut EP OODLES was released, but it was a faithful meeting with Rhythm Section's founder DJ Bradley Zero that eventually led to their 9-track debut LP Double Dinners. Something, which we should have covered long ago.
Fast-forward to today, we're marking the beginning of the journey towards their disco/funk-inspired sophomore album Vitamin D, scheduled for release 15th of March.
"Staying With You" is also the stunning singing debut for keyboardist Will Wells, who shares, "It's a song of reassurance - speaking to an anxious heart, addressing relationship insecurities with resolve and love."
What I appreciate the most about the track, besides the tight rhythm section, is the feel of both old and new throughout the song. It feels like a constant travel through time and genres, delivered with impeccable punctuality and vibrant energy.
Exciting what the next few months before the drop of Vitamin D will bring.
