Kansas-based rapper Chris Carter delivers solid bars on top of smooth & melancholic key-driven instrumental. "Light Up" tells the story of separation from his hometown (Louisville) and how this affected him. He elaborates on the meaning:

This song is about me, struggling with myself. I'm trying to change and become this star but everyone back home thinks I'm switching upon them, so it creates this space in my heard where I'm like: Damn, are they right? What do I do this for - the money, the peace of mind or for the fame?
