It has been a minute I've featured anything in the realm of DYI indie / dream pop music, but Seattle-based duo Chinese American Bear simply blew my mind and re-kindled my love for this music.
The duo creates whimsical, experimental, and playful rock with bi-lingual elements, making the whole experience really wholesome. I do love their self-description though - "Chinese American Bear is a retro, bedroom pop duo creating positive, upbeat, and eclectic indie Chinese music."
Recorded and filmed at Seattle's iconic Hall of Justice - the same venue that hosted renowned artists such as Nirvana and Death Cab for Cutie - Chinese American Bear's (华裔美国熊) Live at Hall of Justice will be a dynamic three-song EP that showcases the band's exceptional live performance (which you can observe in the video below).
The EP will include a live version of their Mandarin tracks "好吗 Hao Ma" and "再见Goodbye", as well as a Mandarin cover of Tame Impala's "大熊 Elephant". The band is planning to release KEXP-style videos with each subsequent single, which I personally think it truly enhances the experience.
A top fit for our Indie Escape playlist.
