The Compton-native Channel Tres pulls from G-Funk, soul, and r&b on the Pharrell-reminiscent new release "Cactus Water".

Channel is known for pushing the traditional spirit of West Coast rap into unexplored territories. We're welcome to that and more on "Cactus Water", and this time Channel has taken a more organic, live approach to his craft. The bass here serves as a core component of the groove, and this is amplified by the raw, punchy drums that come alive in the mid-section. I can't neglect to mention the charismatic swagger dripping from Channel's vocal delivery in his verses, and his angelic chorus.
