After months of teasing us, Catching Flies has finally unveiled his awaited beat tape titled Beats & Pieces under his alter-ego The West Green Quartet.
The beautiful thing about this is the fact that we can still hear shades of his signature, textural sound scattered across the album. One of the stand-out moments here is the warm and colorful "Citrus", a track that's adorned with soulful samples and a range of organic instrumentation. The harps breathe life into the track and give it an elegant and polished veneer in spite of its lofi aesthetic. For Catching Flies, Beats & Pieces serves as an ode to the 1990s/2000s downtempo scene he grew up listening to.
"Last year, I gave myself two weeks to start and finish a Beat Tape. I hired an Airbnb in Ojai after a tour of the US West Coast and set about making Beats & Pieces".
