When I first heard this track, I immediately went into a spaced out, zen mod. Smooth, Portishead-like downtempo vibes and silky vocals, this remix is a pure stress killer.
This is actually the third installment of a monthly series, going by the name CASTANEA in which Rising Appalachia's David Brown shares his vision on various tracks of the band. There is a full on interview on Castanea's SoundCloud, but what grabbed my attention was that snippet off David's thoughts on the remix:
Musically, I wanted to see what it would sound like to shift the rhythm of the song, and then apply the textures of the 90s hip-hop era to it – the kalimba, the upright bass, the scratching. I’m thinking that next month I’ll work on another Rising Appalachia track from the Wider Circles LP, and then start spinning the RA vinyl that’s about to drop, “ALIVE!”
