After a streak of mind-blowing singles that started back in January ("Ibiza", "Dinorah DInorah" and "Unwind"), today we're witnessing the birth of one of the most creative and dynamic albums of 2025 - Butcher Brown's Letters From The Atlantic.
Needless to say, I expected nothing but brilliance from the Richmond jazz-fusion 5-piece, but this record went beyond my expectations. I eagerly waited for midnight to be able to give the 12-track album a spin before going to bed, and those late hours were totally worth it.
Letters From The Atlantic goes beyond genre and time, and it focuses on emotions and the uncanny ability of Andrew, Corey, DJ Harrison, Marcus and Morgen to create experiences that last for a life time.
Blending jazz, rock, funk, R&B, soul, bossa nova, and more. Following Solar Music (2023), this release leans into an indie groove, featuring Yaya Bey, Melanie Charles, Leanor Wolf, Mia Gladstone, Victoria Victoria, Nicholas Payton, and Neal Francis.
I decided to start with a spotlight of one of my favourite tracks (at the time of writing this) - "Right Here" featuring enigmatic Swiss duo Leanor Wolf, who create a captivating blend of electronica, pop, and anything in the alt scene of contemporary music. I like how their electronic roots fit right in with the energy of Butcher Brown. One of the things that make this album very versatile.
