Since the release of his 2023 album Fragments, Bonobo has been unexpectedly dropping dancefloor singles on his OUTLIER label under Ninja Tune - "Defender," "ATK," and "Fold", all of which were nothing short of amazing. A few days ago I got the details of a new upcoming Bonobo single and it goes without saying - hype was off the hook.
"Expander" comes on the heels of Bonobo's electrifying performance at 2024’s Glastonbury where debuted it for the first time. After that, a number of fan clips trying to ID the track have been circulating around. Well, the day has come.
The track carries Bonobo’s signature organic dance sound and blends soothing cinematic vocals with a dance-floor synth-driven energy. I feel that’s one of the most club-heavy things Simon has put out in a while, which makes sense as he’s currently preparing for a huge OUTLIER curated show in the US (at Red Rocks Amphitheatre) alongside fellow Ninja Tune label mates Barry Can’t Swim and Sofia Kourtesis.
Now it’s time to groove.
