Last month I fell in love with Benjamin 'Bnnyhunna' Ankomah's record ECHOES OF PRAYER (Oct 11 via Orange Blues) and everything the Ghanaian-Dutch artist has created so far.
I first heard of his name back in 2022 from our label artist DESH who has played drums with him in the past. Known for blending jazz, hip hop, and Afro rhythms, Bnnyhunna's music tells the story of his journey growing up in Amsterdam. Growing up in a neighborhood where authenticity was crucial, young Benjamin discovered music as a self-expression and a way to reflect on his Ghanaian roots. While attending church he honed his skills on various instruments including piano, guitar, and drums. The journey led him to tour the world as a band member for artists like Jose James and Arp Frique.
Today's highlight is one of ECHOES OF PRAYER's bright shining gems - "Calm Waters". A wonderful and warm blend of groovy rhythms from the heart of Africa, perfectly intertwined with jazzy horns and electronic beat elements. Listening to the track will instantly touch your soul - a unique gift that Bnnyhunna infuses into every note, wherever his music travels.
