Now that everyone is looking back at 2024, I am doing my personal best music of 2024. BALTHVS are definitely up there as my favourite music discovery of the year. If I had to describe their sounds very briefly, I would say it's like Khruangbin married Hermanos Gutiérrez (very high praise!). The Colombian trio is playing funk psychedelia with some Latin flavor, and I am here for it.
"Like Coconut Water" is the track off their 2024 album Harvest. It is the last track they recorded in isolation in the Colombian highlands, and I think this is exactly what gives the song its tropical feel.
"When life becomes waking up to birds and swimming followed by intense music creating sessions, we really felt like sweet, coconut water. There’s some nostalgia there since we couldn’t really stay there for long."
The whole album feels like a breath of fresh air when everyone is hibernating for the next few months. So whenever you need to remind yourself what life will feel like in a few months, Harvest should be your go-to listen.
