Sometimes the more you work with someone the sweeter the fruits of your labor. Such is the case with the UK-based duo of producer Imperial and lyricist K.I.N.E.T.I.K. who have been working together since 2013. Their newest single is “Something From Nothing” and his time around, they introduce a new name to the mix, across-the-ocean recording artist and Don’t Sleep Records co-founder - Awon.
Their cypher is a rhythmic wordplay around the significance and meaning of hip-hop music. From the opening verse, we are grounded in Awon’s personal story of success in the industry and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. guides us through his ambition, devotion and respect for the craft. Both reflect on their individual narratives while exemplifying the community and culture around hip-hop. All the while Imperial’s old-school, turntable-and-mic production shapes the timeless sound of “Something From Nothing.”
