I've been talking to Daniel from Sleep Tales alot lately and he highly recommend me listening to Atlis' latest release Dreamscape. Naturally, I followed up on that advise. Life's been a bit rocky lately, so an escape, even shortly, was more than welcome.
A full listen in, Dreamscape did blow my mind. Just being able to hit a pause on things felt so refreshing. Today I'm starting with my favourite track on the album "Free Fаll".
Atlis is UK-based producer with roots in the electronic and house music, but his interest in sound design has expanded into more spacious sounds like ambient and lofi. through to this project as well. Incorporating whatever he gets on his field recorder has been Ky's go-to thing when it comes to creating this and it's something you could hear clearly if you listen carefully. It's all in the little details.
I also had a pleasure of talking to Ky, so I can be able to understand album's even further.
How would you describe Dreamscape in a sentence?
Dreamscape as a project to me was is all about adventuring outside your comfort zone and learning new things about yourself and your surroundings.
What was the recording process like? Was it straight-forward already in your head or an experience / journey along the way?
When writing the tracks for Dreamscape, I’d just picked up some instruments for the first time and wanted to see what I could do with a few years of production knowledge but no experience with bass or guitar (and my midi keyboard that was just picking up dust until then haha.)
It went a lot better than I was expecting and after testing the waters with all sorts of lofi sub-genere’s, I managed to narrow it down and piece together a full body of work for the first time that would help me to understand where I want to go with Atlis in the future.
if you could choose 1 setting for fans to listen to it, where would that be?
If there’s one place i’d listen to the project, it would be outside while taking a walk, on your own or with some friends, that’s how I picked up on a lot of the inspiration for some of the tracks, and that’s probably a good way to listen to the project (and it’s good for u to do that anyway, lol).
What's next for you?
I'm working hard towards a future in sound design as I start to get more experienced with this whole music thing, and that’s something I want to be able to push through into my music in the future!
