Kats (Casper Tromp) unites his expertise in jazz and classical music through the use of electronic drums and other sounds. His crossover into electronica and trip-hop informed grooves has been chiefly inspired by Jazzanova, Cinematic Orchestra, DJ Shadow and Bonobo. He employs his primary instruments (piano, Rhodes and analog synthesisers) to create rich textures and improvised parts, then blends in a seamless mix of electronic and acoustic drums.
Originally from the Netherlands and now based in Sydney, Kats is part of chart-topping house acts Colour Castle, Nightset and Misingo. He also stays inspired through his frequent gigging and touring as a jazz and funk keyboard player.
