As tradition goes (10 Female Rappers You Should Know About in 2023), at the beginning of 2025 we wanted to spotlight some of the female hip-hop artists we're excited about this year.

Some of them are now well-known (hi, Doechi), others are yet to make their big impact in the music scene - something we're sure absolutely of! Besides our dedicated playlist, you'll be able to find lots of those artists on our soulful hip hop playlist.

Going back to Doechi and her Alligator Bites Never Heal, it’s great to see the dominance of female rappers in 2024 who didn’t hold their own. In our 100 Best Albums of 2024 editorial piece, we included some beautiful records including (but limited to) Rapsody's Please Don’t Cry, Lex Amor's Forward Ever, and tg.blk's ITS NOT THAT DEEP (technically an EP, but still). All of those are a perfect showcase that the spectrum of female voices in hip-hop is broader than ever.

Excited to share with you our favourite

The artists featured in this article seamlessly blend singing and rapping, showcasing a diverse range of vocal styles and flows. Their talents extend beyond songwriting and vocal performance, often encompassing production, video direction, and more. A shared trait among these exceptional women is their commitment to addressing socially relevant topics, using their music as a platform for meaningful expression.

Stay up to date.

Doechii

The 26-year-old rapper and singer grabbed a well-deserved Best Rap Album Grammy for Alligator Bites Never Heal and it would be difficult to not be excited about whatever is coming next.

Doechi also had a great kick-off of 2025 by dropping the long-awaited "Anxiety" which incorporates elements of the eternal hit "Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye. Her hard work all these years is paying off and it's great seeing her at the helm of things right now.

Samara Cyn

As big years ago, Samara Cyn's 2024 was pretty significant too because of the birth of her debut The Drive Home EP. The Tennessee-born, LA-based rapper / singer will blow your mind thanks to her ability to fuse rap and neo-soul. Lots of people see her as the perfect blend of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu and I certainly see why. Her perfectly balanced heartfelt lyrics, captivating melodies, and sharp delivery made me fall in love with her art from the get-go.

If you need more reasons to be obsessed with her music, look no further than her COLORSxSTUDIOS performance of "Chrome".

Chí Saínt

One of the new names on the list, Chí Saínt seems criminally underrated.

Back in February, Marvin covered her Karma EP and it has been on repeat ever since. Ferocious and outspoken, the Portland-based (I believe?) artist will impress you with the maturity of her lyrics and the ability to deliver an impeccable vibe.

She made a really funny promo video about herself and her music where she mentioned JID and Jhene Aiko on there, which I feel like a pretty dope and accurate description.

Brittney Carter

I really hope we see more of Brittney Carter in 2025. The Chicago-born rapper was brought up listening to Lauryn Hill and Kendrick Lamar, influences you can quickly pick in her music. Exploring themes of personal growth, relationships, and mental health, Brittney is equally skilled at delivering spot-on lines and soulful melodies.

Brittney has opened for Rapsody and Jay Electronica and has cosigned with Slum Village, Saba and Missy Elliott. Also, in 2024, Brittney Carter was selected by Rapsody for the inaugural Femme it Forward MUSE Mentorship Program, which is a clear testament to her talent and dedication.

I really loved her collab on Adia's "For Free" (2024) - the song that catapulted her towards the top of my watchlist.

Nappy Nina

Brooklyn-based rapper came on our radar in 2022 and it's been instant love ever since. I was extremely happy to see her name on Butcher Brown's Solar Music (2023) and Nao Yoshioka's Flow (2024), but I still believe we're yet to see her star shining bright across the globe. I try to stay away from making top 5 selections, but her collab with dane.zone and Lindsay Lucas, "Mercy", was probably my most streamed song of 2024.

Her talent lies in her seamless ability to switch between hard-hitting intensity and smooth delivery in an instant, all while showcasing her unmistakable voice.

RAYNE

Excited to have one of our own label artists on this list. I had the pleasure of meeting RAYNE in person in Berlin and as soon as I heard her crestfallen EP my jaw dropped. Her music is a blend of alt-hip-hop & neo-soul, with emotionally charged & captivating lyricism, where she creates alternative realities that feel both detached and relatable.

While lots of her music dwells in the neo-soul space, inspired by the Soulquarians, RAYNE is an exceptionally skilled rapper, something you can experience in songs like "Feeding The Fire (OV)" and "Complicated".

Sorvina

Speaking of Berlin and female hip hop artists, Sorvina certainly made some waves in 2024. The New York native turned Berlin-based artist, blends folk roots and gospel influences with the dynamic energy of hip-hop. Initially drawn to the introspective world of acoustic music, she later embraced hip-hop’s vibrance and freedom, shaping her unique sound. At the start of this year, she released her EP Oh, The Places You'll Go, a stunning collaboration with producer jakohitsdifferent, showcasing her versatility and artistic depth.

O-Slice

O-Slice is an unstoppable force in the current alternative hip hop movement. The Nigerian-American artist fully embraces her roots and will instantly awe you with a flow that has the fierce energy of Kendrick, while keeping a groove that feels out of this world. Born in Nigeria, her family immigrated to the US at age two. A shy child, Opeyemi turned to poetry for self-expression, but at nine, discovering rap transformed everything.

The independent rapper has landed music in Steph Curry commercials, sold out shows in DC, and gained tens of thousands of YouTube views with her vibrant videos.
