“Kill the Calories” is a video directed and edited by 26 year old Saman Keshavarz. You might have seen some of his previous works, but in case you haven’t … his videos are a must-see!

In our first review, we saw a video that portrays mass media as a malignant influence on people’s behavior. With “Kill the Calories” we give you an example of how to adequately ridicule some of the fabricated ideals in modern society through video.

How far can an artificial ideal of beauty push the weak-minded? With a lot of in-your-face “subliminal” messaging “Kill the Calories” mocks how ridiculous people that sell ideas can look, as well as the people who follow them. Throughout the face-paced scenes of this pumping, electro bonanza by French artist Vitalic, the editing and cinematography are built flawlessly around the track to grab every bit of your attention. The music itself is definitely something you could do your morning exercises to. Depending on where you listen to Vitalic’s track, you might end up in a hospital if partying too hard for extended periods of time.

“Kill the Calories” is a sobering reminder of the deformities consumerism has created in Western societies. It rekindles the political views of Herbert Marcuse, who claims that the consumerist, capitalist spirit, creates artificial needs and wants in us. And indeed, what’s more artificial and absurd than obesity as a global issue, considering the amount of famine our planet faces? Anyways, have fun with this video, which I have examined with great scrutiny to ensure your enjoyment.
