Ever since their widely acclaimed debut album in 2012, Canadian duo Purity Ring has claimed its place among those who would redefine the sound of neo-pop. Yet, I must admit, to me Purity Ring's work had been hit-or-miss: at times, Megan James' sweet vocals were a bit too cavity-inducing, while Corin Roddick's beat structure - a little too simple and unimpressive. And although Shrines had a few awesome tracks, and was highly praised by the hip kids, Purity Ring didn't seem quite there yet.
Cue their 2015 more polished and melodic effort, Another Eternity. Although their sophomore album doesn't drastically shift their style, the tracks on it are more digestible and refined. One of my favorites is "Begin Again", mostly because the sugary naive vocals work perfectly on this track. The video also does the song a huge favor by attaching a darker, more somber tones to it (something I believe Purity Ring's sound itself could use). The great visuals and the video's topic of rebirth manage to balance out the confectionery music while extending on the lyrics.
