Observing organic processes and emergence of variety of lifeforms always puts me into a state of feeling alien to my own planet. Seeing something that looks like it belongs to a place you never seen nor experienced before just creates a wave of anxious excitement that washes away all the desperation and hopelessness stuck like rust in your body. Few seconds later you slowly realise, that this is actually the place you call “home”, this is how everything around you came to its existence, how you became “you”. Every molecule, every atom fit perfectly where they belong, it’s being put together, the nature is put together, we are put together. From tiny micro-organisms, to an entity sitting in front of a machine, giving thoughts a form, being able even to think about this, whilst living in a giant spinning sphere, one of the hundreds of billions or probably even more, that we actually could count. Suddenly, you appreciate the fact that you are still breathing, being able to experience all that is given to you.
This is how I see the video of “Ether”, the opening and as said by Stuart Braithwaite “most optimistic part” of the soundtrack of Atomic: Living In Dread and Promise , also included in Mogwai’s upcoming album Atomic due to be released on 1st of April via Rock Action.
