Allysha Joy's voice is the refreshing touch of a breeze on a hot summer day.

A week ago the Australian singer and 30/70 frontwoman announced the name of her upcoming album via First Word Records - The Making of Silk and its official release date (September 13th). Today we celebrate the 3rd single from the record titled "David" - a slow-burner gem entangled with afro-cuban and jazz elements. The track is Allysha's way of standing her ground.

"I want to acknowledge the joy and the pain that exists within this song, the complexity of recognising and overcoming any situation of abuse or violence and the incredible power of getting out, knowing that you deserve better and speaking it out loud", Allysha elaborates.

I loved the fact that she opened up and revealed bits of herself and the story/inspiration behind The Making of Silk.

"Inspired by the kind of love that bell hooks writes about, that lives in the poetry of Mary Oliver and Hafiz and the passionate dreaming of a Koryūsai painting, that is as powerfully defiant as the writing of James Baldwin and forever unbound as Jodorowsky dreams, holding one’s therapeutic untangling and complexity. It’s born out of wanting to know a love that is compassionate, that lives in open conversation, deep listening, the front lines of social movement and would never seek to stifle the light in you. It’s about accepting our aloneness, the impermanence of all things and still forever wanting to prove it wrong, to say that I understand that all things change, all things end, hurt exists, but I will love regardless. It’s about love.", she shares on Instagram.

More than a few reasons to be excited for September 13th. Stay tuned for more.
