After I got to taste "Indighost" by Xelarain, I was really looking forward to listening to the album. Cavewave dropped earlier this month and consists of nine tracks. Usually I quickly pick a favorite track but in this case the more I listened the more difficult it was to choose which one I liked the most.
Xelarain's idea behind this album was to create a cave-in-like atmosphere with lo-fi samples, trembling bass vibes, organic sounds and ambient textures. And in tracks like "Indighost", "TexasBlue", "Weedgames and "BlackComb" this is self-evident. Slow tempo, heavy bass and deep distorted vocals leads you deep under the Earth's surface. The tracks reflect vast spaces, a safe environment where you can spend as much time as you wish with the feelings this music evokes.
On the other side are tracks like "ToasterBath", "WhoreAbduction" and specially "PinkSlip" which possess some cosmic influence. The surrounding environment here is spacious too but on a different scale. I hear light travel, I see the open space and stars clusters - the vocals are mellow and relaxing. I love the ending of "WhoreAbduction" where you can hear muffled sound of engines roaring.
Xelarain has done an amazing work with his debut album and if you do not have time to listen to the whole album start with "Cubensis". Then you'd get hooked and listen to the rest of Cavewave.
Stay up to date.
