It's finally here. Sufjan Stevens' beautiful acoustic legacy Carrie & Lowell is ready to completely take over your ears and trust me - that's one of the best things which could happen today musically.
The record, which is dedicated to his mom and step dad - the two picture from that rugged and authentically scratched photo. Sufjan's mom passed out a few years ago after dealing with schizophrenia and depression, so the whole album and especially the lyrics feel like... on one hand a trip to their past and on the other a search for answers ("How, how did this happen" - from "Drawn To The Blood"). All that being said, the overall feeling of Carrie & Lowell is very soothing.
I would highly recommend listening to the whole record very carefully, especially for those of you who (like me) not always pay attention to the lyrics. In this case, not only give the complete sense to the whole picture, but is what actually gave me the chills on a numerous occasions.
The album is out via Asthmatic Kitty Records (which is run by Sufjan and his step dad) and I hope you enjoyed this acoustic trip through Sufjan's memories as much as I did. Truly delightful.
