I've been stoked for this since last week when Colin forwarded me the pre-listen of Shigeto's new Intermission EP. I've been his fan for quite some time, but after seeing the Detroit producer live - things went to a whole new level.

One personal advice - whether enjoy the music or not (we all live in a free society), please go see that man live. The energy and flow are incomparable. One of the best shows in my life so far.

The EP, which is the first official record (as far as I know) after Zach's No Better Time Than Now (read review here) is described by him as a "point to the past, present, and future" and I imagine it somehow reflects the extensive touring he has been doing the past couple of years. Besides doing the things as Shigeto, he has been involved in numerous jazz-centered project High Risk with another fellow jazz musician Dave Douglas.

But lets go back to the intermission. We already covered the tribal vibes of "Pulse" and the drum-centered "Do My Thing" (and yeah, I just picture Zach hitting the drums around with various paraddidles around the 1st minute), but those are just a few pieces of the whole puzzle.

As always (I think I've written this 1000s times), the EP is meant at least in my opinion, to be enjoyed from - to. A lot of experimental sounds who somehow awesomely blend together and I reckon it would take dozens of listens before really absorb every piece of melody put together.

My personal favourite so far is "Gently". It just calms me down from note one. It somehow reminiscences me to "Silver Lining" which was my go-to stress remedy for many months in a row.

All that being said, stoked for this guy and what's ahead. I still feel there is just so much more behind what he could do, not only as producer but as a drummer, so hat off, mr. Saginaw.

Stay up to date.
