You're probably familiar with a name such as Jean - it's quite a common name, after all. But have you heard about Jean Jean?

Jean Jean is an instrumental rock band consisting of 3 Frenchmen: Sebastien Torregrossa, Jeremy Savry, and Edouard Lebrun. Back in 2010, on a cold winter holiday, they decided to isolate themselves in the Alps. Alone in the warmth of an Alpian chalet, Sebastien, Jeremy and Edouard pushed their musical experimentations further, thus giving way to their first eponymous EP - which you can listen here. 3 years later, the band released its first album Symmetry. By then, Jean Jean has been reduced to two musicans; and this time, Sebastien and Edouard picked less-secluded recording places, nourrishing the album with more influences.

So yes, I'm a year late on that release... To be quite fair, I've stumble on this amazing piece only by digging the Rock en Seine Festival line-up. Jean Jean are scheduled on the new-musicans-to-watch scene, and the band has been the highlight of all the discoveries I've made.

Symmetry mixes different rock genres. On the opening track "Coquin l'Elephant", you can clearly feel some hard rock influences melting with some luminous math-rock chords. At first, you can hear the Elephant's heavy pace, but then the animal gets kinky and the melody follows up its mood. "Les Orgues de Gorah" has a warlike energy - which might be related to the army base camp at El Gorah, Egypt. It blends martial drums with powerful organ sounds. The tracks is followed by the peaceful song that is "Love", sustained by light but energic piano notes. After all, a famous Beatles did said once "Make love not war"...

"Laser John" drives you to a place where the living's easy. Personally, it remains me of the sunny coast of Leman Lake. Gregory Hoepffner lends his vocals on that one; here you have a glimpse of his ability, from singing gently to going screamo.

"Vacherro" intro takes you off to some cosmic areas. Fasten your seatbealt and get ready for a journey through Earth, Sky and the Universe. At the end of the track, the cicada will hum you a welcome song. However if you do prefer galactic places, take a one-way ticket aboard the "Mac" rocket.

The closing track "Wonder Bras" will provide proper soundtrack to your Superhero adventures. With such bass chords, you can conquer the world!

If you like the album, join me on my Superhero adventures at Rock en Seine, and let's dance to Jean Jean all together! See you on Saturday, then?
