After a slew of EPs and prominent singles, the renowned Dutch DJ and electronic producer Helsloot finally unveiled his debut album Never Tried this year.
Most discover Helsloot through his hit single with Tinlicker "Because You Move Me", although when they dive into his discography, they'll be pleasantly astounded to find his sound goes beyond the realms of deep house. In fact, Never Tried beautifully captures his sonic diversity as Helsloot swims through melodic house, nu disco, and melodic techno. Never Tried promises to deliver the signature depth and emotional resonance that Helsloot is known for, offering a journey through intricate soundscapes and dynamic rhythms.
From its features (Beacon, Malou, Tinlicker) to its sound, I absolutely adore that it strikes the perfect balance between Helsloot’s underground aesthetic and his commercial-leaning approach. One of the stand-out moments is certainly the album opener "Mirrors". This behemoth of a track has this larger-than-life feel to it thanks to its anthemic buildup that eventually unites listeners with feelings of euphoria. He elaborates, “My debut album is mainly about me, which was the hardest thing to do for a people pleaser. I tried digging as deep as I could and ignored every trend to explain it to every future me in its purest way. It’s a translation of the excitement but also the insecurity you feel when trying something new."
Released via Get Physical Music label on May 10th, the record is available in both digital formats and as a stunning double vinyl LP, catering to music lovers and collectors alike.
