No matter the sonic direction Flying Lotus explores on his new EP Spirit Box, each track radiates a deep sense of warmth and soul to offer an emotionally rich experience.

The last time we received original music (excl. soundtracks) from Flying Lotus was in 2019 after he released the masterpiece Flamagra. On Spirit Box, however, we’re acquainted with a pleasantly eerie tone floating throughout the EP, creating a dark yet soulful charm.

FlyLo pulls from house, r&b, and African influences throughout the course of the record - and even though this is a mixed bag of styles everything still feels quite cohesive. Tracks like “Ajussi” and “Ingo Swann” deliver a dance-flood leaning sound, while “Let Me Cook” with Dawn Richard flaunts an r&b appeal.

One of the most surprising moments however is "Garmonbozia", a track that deeply dives into pain and sorrow through his own vocals. The songwriting is quite vulnerable and expresses great suffering, and this is complemented by deep, hazy vocals where we can hear the weight of heartbreak.
