Musician / producer Andrew Rothschild caught my attention back in 2018 with a series of captivating and soul-toching electronics compositions. Ever since then, I consider the Denver-based musician one of the most prominent torch-bearers in the realm of dance IDM, downtempo and house music. That is why I was excited to hear the Emancipator-found label Loci Records - people who consistently put out some of the best music out there and today we're honored to host an exclusive feature of his upcoming Pronoia (pre-save the release from here).
Let me tell you something - this will be a ride. It's 6:30AM on a Wednesday here in Berlin, but as soon as Pronoia's first track "Elysian" kicked in, I was not in my room. There's this cool and really empowering darkness, which I think is the best way to start the 5 track journey crafted by Andrew. I immediately thought of those early morning open rave experiences. I absolutely love the way he blends inspirations from people like Bonobo and Tycho, but fuses them with a much stronger dance influence.
When it comes to the EP, Andrew shares with us...
Pronoia is a neologism coined to describe a state of mind that is the opposite of paranoia. Whereas a person suffering from paranoia feels that persons or entities are conspiring against them, a person experiencing pronoia feels that the world around them conspires to do them good. It's funny, I made these songs with this album name / ideology in mind. I made this music with the constant state of things are going to work out. This has easily been my most fluid/enjoyed album I've made thus far. I hope you can feel the emotion/optimism throughout!
This is what I love about the EP. It offers such an array of feeling and emotions, it's beyond describable. After "Elysian", I was pleasantly surprised by the calm come-down of tracks like "Indigo" and the classical elements that "Utopia" is built upon.
A sense of epicness flows out from this EP and you will absolutely love it once you submerge into the sonic universe of Andrew Rothschild.
