I hope you guys are ready to have whatever album you've been abusing on repeat dethroned, because what we've prepared for you is pure gold.
Massive shoutouts to our friends from BLVNT Records who we teamed up for this exclusive album stream premiere of today's highlight - AJMW's masterpiece album Unity. This beauty has been my week's soundtrack and I'm glad it's time to share this with the world.
Whether you come from a more instrumental hip hop roots or are just fan of good music, Unity, as the album title suggests brings together a whole range of music genres and I bet everyone will find bits and pieces of himself while streaming the 13 beautifully produced tracks.
From classic old school beat structure through lushful future beats vibe, touching piano samples, exotic chimes and flutes and all the way to that gorgeous Spanish guitar in "Canvas" - Ashley Warden's work (the person behind AJMW) is simply put enchanting. And yes - you kind of realized which song was the first real obsession I had last week when I first heard the record. Drawing inspirations from artists like D'Angelo, Donald Byrd and Azymuth, this release is pure, pure gold for everyone who enjoys good music.
Later on things changed and my affection with the record eventually blended into an overall feeling, but tracks like "Canvas", "Singularity" and "Baghira" just hit me straight from the first chord.
The more I listened to Unity, the more I realized that there's no better album name out there. The harmony exhaling out of those sounds is on a whole new level and there's nothing I want to do more than just chilling with friends somewhere beautiful and space out to the soundscapes created by the UK producer. "These Times" is somewhat of an exception, because this tune is made to be the soundtrack of love making. Super smooth. Evidence for this are Ashley's own words:
I wanted to create something more worthwhile than a standard beat tape, something that could flow from track to track
Anyway, I won't be going into a track-over-track review. It's kind of silly. That's the purpose of having a whole album to listen to - play the whole ting from front to back and create your own vibe based on current mood. One thing's for sure - AJMW's Unity is a gem.
If you love these sounds - order the album & support the artist at bandcamp.
Stay up to date.
