The latest EP from Akurei, Serotonin offers us a neatly arranged Lo-fi track titled COMATOSE – a track where the vocal performance permeates with vulnerability.
This is partly because Akurie’s delivery is quite hushed and whispery, as if the pain he is going through weighs him down so heavily that he’s unable to be forthcoming with his presence. And that exceptional conveyance of emotional depth is part of the reason I immediately gravitated towards this. Instrumentally, guitars that glisten throughout the stereo field set the smooth melodic framework which supports his moody vocals.
