The latest release by U.S.-based producer 80% Cacao feels like a combination of Khruangbin and Still Woozy but without the vocals.
He seamlessly sends us drifting into a daydream thanks to the allure of the washed-out guitars and the flutes that are drenched in reverb. It's not only the flutes that give "Played by Delight" a somewhat tropical vibe, it's also the vibrant percussion and overall laid-back atmosphere. What I do find fascinating is how the track exudes a hopeful feel throughout its progression while the story behind it portrays a darker undertone.
"The concept of "Played by Delight" is simply nothing is what it seems. In the Chronicles of Narnia, Turkish Delight was used as a tool to deceive the good. This whole project takes themes from the story and relates them to the modern day. How do we get tricked by wordly things", shares the producer.
