4lienetic's Waking Life LP is a shining example of the standard to which all ambient/drone music should be held to. Vibrant, diverse and rich with countless textures, every track on the LP showcases what is possible when it comes to creating soundscapes in their purest form. The eighth track on the release, "Andromeda", is no exception to this rule.
The inspiration for this track lies clearly in it's name. Andromeda is a constellation named after the Greek Goddess of dreams, and 4lienetic manages to capture the weight of this context perfectly. The song sounds like a constellation, there's no better way to describe it. You know that feeling you get when you look up on a clear night and you become suddenly so aware of the fact that you are simply floating through a nearly endless expanse? Well, put on some headphones, lie back, close your eyes and listen to this tune. You'll know what I mean.
Synth soundscapes pulse throughout the track, coupled with thick bass notes to convey an impossibly large space. Coupled with textures that rustle around the stereo space, the track feels like you could almost step into it and look around at each impeccable detail.
I picked just one track to write about from the album, but could easily have talked endlessly about any one of them. Listen to the full thing below, and make sure you do so when you have time to soak it all in at once.
