Ah Nathaniel, where to start? This guy just breaks my heart (& my speakers - & on more than one occasion).
Nathaniel is fairly inconspicuous when it comes to the UK (or Europe for that matter). In fact the first time I heard Nathaniel, I wondered just how exactly I had grown so old without his music filling at least one period of my life. I'm glad to say this is something that is now most definitely corrected - and then some.
Nathaniel is in essence an American Folk/Rock singer/songwriter, although to classify him in any bracket so generic feels - well almost ironic. Born in Missouri but really honed in Denver, its quite amazing that he hasn't received more critical acclaim this side of the Atlantic - especially when you consider he has shared mic's with Bon Iver, The Fray, The Lumineers, Iron & Wine, Ben Howard and Mumford & Sons.
In terms of reviewing the actual music behind the man and indeed "Nothing To Show For", the chances are if you have pressed play before reading this, you will probably never get this far or if you have, you won't really care what's written anyway. The guy is a genius of such understated proportion, where his music is literally poured out from every experience, straight to page and stage.
I won't try and excuse my reasoning for this post with any sort of relevance, but to try and at least reference something current, Nathaniel is currently on tour with his latest project Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, with an album due on the 21st August.
