I have been in love and awe with nearly every piece of music that has come out of Australia for the good part of the last two years. None have impressed me more than the amazing young talent, that is Lupa J. Just 17 years old, she is a classically trained violinist, who produces and writes all of her songs in a new electronic amploa. Her talent shines through on literally every song she has released in her short career, which so far includes one EP - The Seed, and a small number of singles. Her haunting vocals, descibing often dark and emotional subject themes, can leave you at a disbelief when connecting them to her age. Lupa has given the likes of Radiohead, FKA Twigs and Grimes as some of her top influences and their sound can clearly be heard in her blend, while her songs often bring you to a similar emotional place.
The featured song ''Quiet Here'' is a prime example of all her talents working together in harmony. The string arrangement, played by Lupa herself, fits perfectly with the electronic production, while her enchanting voice tells a story of impossible love. Despite the topic, an uplifting sense builds up and culminates when she plays a violin solo towards the end of the track. A great alt-pop tune that I believe is a good introduction to her music.
One of Australia's bright new gems, Lupa J is surely an artist with a lot to say and the talent to do so in a beautiful and unique way. Keep your eye out on her Soundcloud page as she is sure to take 2016 by storm. Lupa already has a big personal event lined up as an opening act for Grimes on her concert in Sydney, 10th Feb.
Hope you enjoyed my first post!
