My hip hop game is not very strong: I don't know any newcomers, I don't know the artists "to watch", but some of the goodness is inescapable even for me.
Chicago native Kweku Collins released his debut Say It Here, While It's Safe EP last year, and it's already something outstanding. His music kind of falls between R&B and hip hop and is just so so pleasant to my ear. The lyrics are relatable, the production and instrumentals are perfect, so there is not a whole lot to wish for.
"Lonely Lullabies" is a very special track, as I could never imagine that Daughter's "Youth" could be sampled for a hip hop track. But Collins did it and it sounds awesome. The track has an interesting structure with a short instrumental break in the middle of the song. The song might be old, but it's so dope. Give this guy some love and check out his brand new album Nat Love here.
